Certain new algorithms used by plenoptic cameras require focused microlens images. The range of applicability of these algorithms therefore depends on the depth of field of the relay system comprising the plenoptic camera. We analyze the relationships and tradeoffs between camera parameters and depth of field and characterize conditions for optimal refocusing, stereo, and 3D imaging.en_US
