This document describes the Multimedia and Communications Degree (Licenciatura em Comunicações e Multi- média, LCM) of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. The LCM degree was approved in 2002 and started in 2002/2003. The paper addresses the main motivations behind the creation of the LCM degree, describes the LCM curricula and functioning, outlines the career opportunities, and extracts some conclusions after the first year of activities.
